Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged his former club to let centre-back Joel Matip leave and sign a left-footed central defender.
Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are all set to leave the club this summer. While the team has been linked with Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
But Carragher stressed that. He felt Klopp should have left a defensive player in favor of Matip to make way for a left-footed defender who could play at a back.
“I look at the defensive line and I think Joel Matip has one year left on his contract.” Carragher told Red Men Plus. Then it would be appropriate to let him go.”
“I think we need a left-sided defender, a left-footed centre-forward. A lot of teams have players like that that we don’t have. The player on the left to add something.”UFABET
“Instead of buying a left-back because I don’t think we will. If we continue in this fashion. We should buy someone in that area. A centre-back who can play in the full-back role.
Matip has been at Liverpool since 2016 and has currently made 187 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.
